By 2007, Martin Margiela had entered a phase of his career defined by a preoccupation with 1970s disco styling. Shirts were unbuttoned to the navel, and the collection was full of playful fabrics including lurex and shiny metallic nylon, along with glow-in-the-dark T-shirts. A variety of necklaces displayed drug paraphernalia such as spoons and razor blades, which played into the 1970s party theme.
