Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS1996 Vinyl Reflector Jacket
Comme des Garçons Homme Plus’ spring 1996 collection was heavily influenced by safety workwear — jackets and vests affixed with luminescent neons to increase the visibility of manual laborers. These bold neon colors have long been appropriated by rave and club kid culture, and in turn permeated into high fashion by designers such as Walter Van Beirendonck and Jean Paul Gaultier. It was a surprising choice for Rei, and the neon vibrancy of the collection, titled “Disconnected Gentlemen”, stood out as a unique outlier within the canon of her work, which a severe black palate had become so synonymous with.
This jacket utilizes a stiff vinyl fabric in yellow and pink, alongside red cotton throughout the rest of the body.
Condition: 7/10. Light scratching on vinyl. Discoloration around the neck and shoulder regions.
