Kansai Yamamoto Snow Leopard Bomber Jacket
Kansai Yamamoto Snow Leopard Bomber Jacket
Kansai Yamamoto was the designer du jour for David Bowie throughout the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. He conceptualized several looks quintessential to the visual lexicon of Bowie’s career, including the Ziggy Stardust tour outfits. Kansai also designed the asymmetric striped body suit which appeared on the back of the "Station to Station" cover, and rather tragically once more in Bowie’s “Lazarus” music video. His reign was relatively short-lived due to the high production costs and limited releases, which led to a slashing of budgets, and in turn a decline in quality and creative spark in the mid ‘80s.
Some of his most well known pieces through the late ‘70s included knits and jackets with elaborate reconstructions of traditional Japanese iconography, hand-embroidered with glittering lurex and faux fur appliqués. This jacket additionally features a full satin lining, utility sleeve pocket, and western yokes.
