Number (N)ine SS/AW2003 Destroyed Grunge Sweater
In 2003, Takahiro Miyashita released only one collection, as a physical ailment rendered him unable to produce at the speeds demanded by a typical design cycle. The lone output was an intimate love letter to Seattle’s grunge heroes of the ‘90s, a fact self-evident amidst an observation of this throughly distressed knit. Takahiro’s affinity for Kurt Cobain was expressed repeatedly throughout the history of Number (N)ine, (he would sculpt another season, SS07’s “About a Boy,” in his likeness) and in 2003’s “Touch Me I’m Sick,” he released exact reproductions of pieces from Cobain’s wardrobe, including his iconic red and black striped mohair sweater and velvet patched denim.
This oversized v-neck sweater features a thick and loose weave, with threads intentionally coming undone at the hems, imitating the worn-out knits Cobain often wore.
