By the fall of 2012, Raf was entrenched in an era defined by mediations on his mortality and work, two things symbiotic for an artist. The show was titled “Run Fall Run,” a reference to the circle of success and failure which defines not just a career, but a lifetime. He again returned to the boyish silhouettes he had channeled so many times throughout his storied line, believing them allegorical to a renewed idealism present within him.

The collection acted as a mediator between his early and present bodies of work, channeled through the pairing of slim, schoolboy-esque shorts with intricately proportioned overcoats and blazers. The sneakers were a key standout of the show as well. Predating his Adidas collaborations and today’s emergent trend of running sneakers, Raf produced these shoes years before which include a layered, low-top silhouette, colorblocked detailing, and Raf Simons branding on the backside.
