Jean Paul Gaultier AW1997 Mohair Check Riding Suit
Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall 1997 collection put forth the idea of something of an unruly gentleman. His models leered in top hats and mohair riding suits, mugging at the crowd and pointing mocking fingers toward them. Suiting was prevalent, cut broad at the shoulders and slim and long through the body, with four-button blazers made of rich velvet and mohair. The trousers were cropped as gentleman’s trousers of yesteryear often were, to ensure they would not catch when riding on horseback
This famous appeared on the runway and has since remained in rotation as a classic piece of Gaultier’s work. It toured in his 2011 exhibit, "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier,” as a critical piece, often placed beside Gautlier’s 1992 Yellow Tartan suit, which was famously seen in the film “Clueless.”
It features velvet buttons and trim, a rich mohair body, a fully lined inner, and a flattering slim fit.
