Jean Paul Gaultier SS1996 Trompe L'Oeil Muscle Bomber Jacket
Throughout the ‘90s, Gaultier emphasized clothing celebrating the natural body — he used razor-thin, body-revealing tops and trompe l’oeil patterns to highlight the sexuality of the male body in a way uncommon for mainstream culture at the time. His most famous of the latter were a series of outerwear pieces which portrayed chiseled male torsos across unisex pieces, appearing prominently on the runway for the spring 1996 collection. This bomber utilizes the print across a lightweight fabric, and is cut with a cropped fit and narrow hem that Gaultier repeatedly employed, intending to highlight the narrowness of one’s waist and shape of their upper-body.
Condition: 8/10. Some signs of wear to the fabric.
