Gaultier’s spring 2002 collection featured a variety of mesh tops which referenced the abstract pictogram style work of Pablo Picasso and his surrealist counterparts. It also heavily utilized a collage-style blend of loosely collected images and appliqué designs. Such can be seen here, where disconnected eyes and lips, along with dangling strings, intersect to craft a face atop the mesh shirt.
