Raf Simons SS1999 Triple Layer Mesh Shirt
Raf Simons’s spring 1999 “Kinetic Youth” show eschewed the overt punk influences of his previous work to focus on tailoring. Simons claimed that, prior to embarking on the season, he postulated how to make such a thing cool to the type of teenager who had never worn a suit. His answer was shown on the runway, where cries of “we don’t need no education” from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” backdropped young models in Simons’ distinct tailoring, which borrowed the slender-on-top and loose-on-bottom silhouettes made famous by ravers of the era.
The season contained a variety of intricately sewn together tops that utilized different blends of fabric. This triple-layered top features two cotton tank tops with a mesh base beneath them.
