Vetements’s AW2019 runway emphasized subversion and enforcement of censorship. Free speech iconography such as a spray painted anarchy “A” were contrasted against parental advisory warnings, and Interpol trench coats. On one hand, the silhouettes were typical Demna, employing his usual oversized cuts. However, while Demna once found volume through ultra-structured shoulders and fabrics, here he veered into a more relaxed look, with many of the clothes fitting as pajamas would, and emphasized softer faux fur and fleece fabrics.

This bomber appeared on the runway, and is quintessential Demna. It’s a warping of a simple garment - a collegiate jacket - and in many ways feels like a nod to Raf Simons’s spring 2000 Summa Cum Laude collection, which employed a similar oversized fraternity bomber.
