Number (N)ine AW2005 "The High Streets" 4-Pocket Hybrid Pants
Fall 2005’s “The High Streets” marks a high point of a formative era for Takahiro Miyashita. He founded Number (N)ine in his early-20s, and in this state of relative youth, he channeled influences from the United States and pioneers of Japanese streetwear like Hiroshi Fujiwara. As his career developed, he found his natural home in an a uniquely gothic expression of Western isolation, and eventually a pivoted to futurist-based approach to the same feelings of lonesomeness and stoicism.
“The High Streets” was defined by a reinvention of grunge fabrics, creating controlled chaos through a blend of plaids, stripes, and mohairs, alongside more militant MA-1 bombers, cargo pockets, and sweatpants.
The hybrid pants have endured as a prized relic of this more streetwear-focused era of Takahiro Miyashita’s career. There were numerous iterations produced through an array of materials and patterns, including camouflage cotton, gabardine wool, and cotton terry cloth. This specific version is composed of black sweatpants, black gabardine, and four-military cargo pockets, all of which were sourced from authentic vintage trousers.
