Helmut Lang’s work was at its most experimental when it came to his choices of fabric. He innovated and experimented in this realm consistently throughout his time at his eponymous label. Some of his most inventive applications of material came in his use of workwear fabrics — he reappropriated standard construction staples such as 3M and safety orange into bold statements within his output. His spring 1995 collection used 3M repeatedly, including a pair of fully reflective trousers he sent down the runway. This moleskin biker jacket features such 3M accents lining on the cuffs.
