Raf Simons SS1999 3D Pocket Blouson
Raf Simons SS1999 3D Pocket Blouson
Raf Simons’ spring 1999 collection, titled, “Kinetic Youth,” eschewed the overt punk influences of his previous work to focus on tailoring. Simons claimed that, before embarking on the season, he postulated how to make such a thing cool to the type of teenager who had never worn a suit. His answer was shown on the runway, where cries of “we don’t need no education” from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” backdropped young models in Simons’ distinct tailoring, which borrowed the slender-on-top and loose-on-bottom silhouettes made famous by ravers of the era.
Like much of the outerwear from this era of Simons’ work, the jacket appears simple in shape but detailed in its construction. This blouson features 3D pockets, along with sleeve paneling and a slender, raglan cut. A wool iteration was later reissued in the fall of 2005.
