Raf Simons SS1998 Black Palms T-Shirt

Raf Simons SS1998 Black Palms T-Shirt

$350.00

Raf Simons’ spring 1998 “Black Palms" collection represented a swift pivot from his previous work, which merely implied subversion via his off-kilter tailoring of prep clothing, and the leering models who donned the schoolboy garments. “Black Palms” presented no such pretexts of civility, fully embracing punk culture of the late ‘70s. It was most directly influenced by the Sex Pistols, however the razor slim button down shirts, sheer mohairs, slashed back tops, and fishnet weaves offered a less ostentatious nod toward New York’s heroin chic punks — Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, Lou Reed, and the like. For the season’s lookbook, Raf pushed the theme forward with a makeshift LP, which featured a book and postcards inside, consisting of candid shots of the models.

This t-shirt displays the season’s defining graphic. The shirt’s silhouette is likewise indicative of the era of Simons’ work; it features an inordinately slim and cropped cut, along with half-length sleeves.
