Dolce & Gabbana SS2003 Hunting Bomber Jacket
Dolce & Gabbana SS2003 Hunting Bomber Jacket
Dolce & Gabbana runway shows were a throwback to a bygone era of superstar models, and latent sexuality for little more than the sake of vainness. Perhaps the label’s most interesting aspect was its ability to reconfigure military and BDSM signifiers into something that was not merely the lurid paraded about for the bourgeoise (as designers like Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane's work could at times be interpreted), but rather a full revarnishing of the aesthetic into works that emanated opulence alongside their more taboo connotations.
This distinct, multi-pocket cargo bomber is an interpretation of aristocratic British hunting wear. The large front pockets are based on mid-century hunting jackets, which would have been used to store ammunition. However, the jacket additionally features more traditional military stylings with its cargo pockets and MA-1 sleeve pocket.
