Undercover SS2013 Technical Cargo Jacket
By 2013, Jun Takahashi had long veered away from homages to his youth — to Japanese punks and those across the sea whom he idolized, and had set his sites on new horizons. He was now more distinctly focused on technical fabrics, and garments which sufficed without excessive bells and whistles. Jun once again looked to the Brits for inspiration, but not to the rockstars whom had been buried before his own birth, but to the youth of London, and their utilitarian silhouettes, with cropped trousers and relaxed, effortless layering of outerwear which protected them for the elements. Graphic work from the season paid homage to new wave icons the Talking Heads, and middle fingers were cheekily placed atop numerous garments.
This jacket does well to display the crucial shift Jun made at the midpoint of his career, from DIY punk to technical precision. It borrows from silhouettes of classic hiking jackets, and features a water-resistant cotton base, seven cargo pockets, and middle finger emblem embroidery on the chest.
