Raf Simons AW2004 "Waves" Sweater
Raf Simons AW2004 "Waves" Sweater
By 2004, we were firmly in a new era of Raf’s work — the second or third, depending where one places their yardstick. He was no longer a subversive newcomer, but a pillar not unlike the giants he once sought to undermine. The season’s were emblazoned with loosely-connected names of trailblazers who defined their area of expertise, a tacit suggestion of Raf’s standing within his own domain.
This gauge knit sweater hails features the season’s namesake, “Waves,” and an oversized, drop shoulder cut. Its rave-influenced demonstrates Raf’s dramatic turn away from the several seasons which preceded it in terms of both form and attitude. The print is decidedly less incendiary, and is not a direct challenge to any type of status quo, as much of the graphic work from 2002-2003 was.
