Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS2006 Rolling Stones Sweater
"Rock is the symbol of energy and rebellion,” Rei Kawakubo claimed backstage after her spring 2006 presentation. She was perhaps pointing out an obvious opinion, seeing as nearly all of her long-haired models donned the Rolling Stones’s “Lips and Tongue” logo. Widely regarded as the most iconic logo in rock-n-roll history, it was designed by John Pasche, then a student at the Royal Arts College of London. Mick Jagger instructed Pasche to run with an image of the open mouth and long tongue of Hindu Goddess Kali, though he opted to use Jagger’s own mouth as his template for the logo. Pache was ultimately paid 50 GBP for the job, while fifty years later the logo is still pervasive throughout pop culture, and the original artwork is on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It’s seen here woven into a low gauge cotton sweater.
