Helmut Lang AW1999 Leather Astro Moto Jacket
Helmut Lang AW1999 Leather Astro Moto Jacket
Helmut Lang’s fall 1999 collection spans a range of distinct influences which he managed to seamlessly integrate. From astronauts to motorcyclists to BDSM, Lang pulled forth something completely new from a litany of stale archetypes. This idea of drawing from seemingly unrelated subcultures set the foundation for the label’s following years, as Lang went on to blend numerous seemingly anathema aesthetics.
The legendary “astro” biker silhouette — its astronaut and biker influenced shape perhaps the most sterling example of such a technique — is seen here in a rare orange leather iteration. It was typical of Lang to juxtapose bold, subculture-derived color schemes against more traditionally masculine silhouettes, as is the case with this piece. Notable detailing on the jacket includes ribbed elbows and shoulders, asymmetric zipper closure, and the famous interior carrying straps.
Condition: 8/10. Natural signs of wear. A few stitches are undone under the right armpit - does not affect wearability.
