Jean Paul Gaultier AW1989 Sequin Trucker Jacket

Jean Paul Gaultier AW1989 Sequin Trucker Jacket

$1,100.00

Gaultier’s fall 1989 collection derived inspiration from Fantômas, one of the most famous characters in French crime fiction. His signature looks, including bowlers hats, gloves, opera masks, and exaggerated handlebar mustaches could be seen across the runway, which, true to Gaultier’s showman’s instincts, was set in a boxing ring. The clothes were quintessential Gaultier, using sequins, silks, stripes, and cut-outs to emphasize the exaggerated villainous camp of Fantômas.

This jacket utilizes the kind of cropped and wide silhouette Gaultier repeatedly employed throughout late ‘80s and early ‘90s. It pins slender through the waist to emphasize the narrowness of the wearer’s torso, while likewise exaggerating the width of one's shoulders. Beneath the sequins is a substantial wool base, with a pointed collar and snap button closure.

Condition: 8/10. A few missing sequins throughout - two on the back of the left shoulder, three on the back of the left arm. Difficult to notice.
