Jean Paul Gaultier AW1995 Circuit Board Sweater
This top features the kind of cyberpunk graphic which defined Jean Paul Gaultier’s legendary fall 1995 “Cyber” collection, which was crafted as an expression of looming anxieties about Y2K. Circuit boards, repeating fractal patterns, devils, and blank, eyeless faces came together to express the uncertainly and outright menace with which people associated with rapidly progressing technology.
This famous circuitboard graphic can be seen embroidered with a shining lurex fabric which glimmers in the light. The top itself is crafted with a heavy-weight, stretchable wool that sits flat atop the wearer. Gaultier often employed such a wool throughout the ‘80s, and it’s unique to see it on a top from this era.
