Raf Simons SS1999 Mesh Layered Tank Top
Raf Simons’s spring 1999 “Kinetic Youth” show eschewed the punk influences of his previous work to focus on tailoring. Simons claimed that, prior to embarking on the season, he postulated how to make such a thing cool to the type of teenager who had never worn a suit. His answer was shown on the runway, where cries of “we don’t need no education” from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” backdropped youth in Simons’s distinct tailoring, which borrowed the slender-on-top and loose-on-bottom silhouettes made famous by ravers of the era.
This double layered top features a mesh overlay with a bleach-dyed tank top beneath. Both the material and dying process were prevalent throughout the collection.
