Vivienne Westwood SS1985 "Mini-Crini" Star Denim Set

Vivienne Westwood SS1985 "Mini-Crini" Star Denim Set
Vivienne Westwood’s spring 1985 collection marked the end of her five-year “New Romantic” period, which, cloaked in references to historical epochs, marked her movement away from Malcolm McClaren’s influence and into her own realm. Titled "Mini-Crini,” a mocking reference to the stiff, conservative, crinoline fabrics which were popular during the 18th and 19th century, the work was described as a “cardinal change” by Westwood, as she altered her signature silhouette towards something more fitted. It was one of her early references to a distinct historical epoch, a motif she would explore numerous times in coming years.
This set features one of the season’s signature all-over prints. The denim pairing cuts a relaxed shape, with the jacket’s boxy silhouette borrowed from the Lee 91-B.
