Gucci by Tom Ford AW1999 Pony Hair Jacket

Gucci by Tom Ford AW1999 Pony Hair Jacket

$3,500.00

Tom Ford’s fall 1999 collection leaned heavily into the most ostentatious aspects of his work. It was heavy on motorcycle-influenced jackets, pants, and boots, many of which paired with luxurious fur outerwear, and hand-embroidered floral denim and blazers.

This jacket typifies the kind of lux outerwear which Tom Ford made synonymous with Gucci. Crafted with pony hair and faux fur on the sleeves, its lack of inner tags suggest it likely to be a sample. Though now commonplace, Ford's use of faux fur was a symbol of rebellion in the 1990s. In 1995, he declared real fur to be a dated material, and instead opted to employ a Fourrure’s expertise on faux fur. Until then seen as a mark of frugality, Ford flipped the script, showing faux fur on runways alongside alligator skin, or, as seen here, pairing the material with pony fur and leather piping.
